Audio postcard on Cool Stuff: KBIA

Audio postcards are one of my favorite types of multimedia. To me, they do more for the audience than words and pictures: Audio postcards bring the listener to an exact spot, letting them hear how life is somewhere else. Sure they may not be able to see it, but if they close their eyes, they’re there.

I also like audio postcards for the reporting and technical aspect. You’re not just recording ambient or nat sound; you’re interviewing people, recording unique sounds and seeking out the sound or sounds that make a place. Then, you may spend a few hours sifting through the audio and piecing it together so it tells the best story about a place.
