This story idea came from a Wichita Eagle photographer who was noticing more and more women at the gun ranges. I checked it out and and found a very unique and fun story. I attended the gun classes and spoke with women who wanted to learn how to use guns safely and in an environment where they didn’t feel threatened. I also used data to back up my story and not just rely on the women’s stories and instructors’ anecdotes.
I also created an audio slideshow for this story because I thought it would capture the story well. Sounds from a gun range paired with the women’s voices, explaining their choices worked out really well. I think those who didn’t read the story got the gist of it from the short audio slideshow.
